Haunted Happenings at the Balboa Theatre
It may still be August, but spooky season is calling so we’re ready to follow Ichabod, meet Mr. Hyde, and do the Time Warp!
SAN DIEGO, CA — The historic Balboa Theatre is getting into the spirit of the season early with a lineup of haunting happenings, cult-classic thrills, and cinematic scares coming this fall. From the eerie magic of silent cinema to a legendary night in the Time Warp, audiences are invited to experience an unforgettable season of suspense, spectacle, and spooky fun.
Season Three of Silent Movie Mondays kicks off with two haunting silent classics, perfect to set the tone for an autumn filled with excitement—and just the right dose of mystery and scare from cinema’s earliest storytellers.
On Monday, September 21, audiences can experience The Headless Horseman (1922) starring Will Rogers, accompanied live by acclaimed theatre organist Ken Double. Then, on Monday, October 26, the chills continue with the silent horror classic Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde (1920) starring John Barrymore, featuring a live accompaniment by organist David Marsh.
With the Balboa Theatre’s historic and purportedly haunted atmosphere serving as the perfect backdrop, Silent Movie Mondays brings these timeless films back to life with the power and excitement of live music with the Wonder Morton Organ which will certainly create an immersive moviegoing experience unlike any other.
But the scares don’t stop there!
On Sunday, October 11, get ready to do the Time Warp again when The Rocky Horror Picture Show featuring Patricia Quinn. Join the original Magenta, for a special screening of the beloved cult classic in a new 4K restoration, complete with a live shadow cast, audience participation, costume contest, and more.
For the ultimate Rocky Horror experience, exclusive VIP Meet & Greet tickets offer fans the opportunity to meet Patricia Quinn herself.
