Celebrating 100 Years
This March, the historic Balboa Theatre in San Diego will turn 100 years old! A venue that began as a vaudeville and cinema theatre in 1924 has become a beloved home for music, dance, and comedy in the heart of the city, playing host to hundreds of thousands of guests each year.
Weekend at a Glance
From March 28-30, 2024, we will host a selection of special performances including a salute to our military, a twist on “Saturday morning cartoons,” a sing-along featuring the Great American Songbook, and much, much more. 100th Anniversary Gala
Featuring Hershey Felder and the Great American Songbook
Thursday, March 28 at 6:30 p.m.
Pre-show celebrations will kick off at 6:00 PM with a performance by renowned theatre organist Ken Double. Balboa Theatre’s 100th anniversary will continue at 6:30 PM with a special performance led by acclaimed pianist, playwright, and actor Hershey Felder.
Honoring San Diego’s Military at Balboa Theatre
Friday, March 29 at 7:00 p.m.
A screening of the silent film “The Flying Fleet” will be the highlight of an evening celebrating San Diego’s military service members. Ken Double will accompany the 1929 film on our vintage Robert Morton theatre pipe organ.

A Morning of Family Fun
Saturday, March 30 at 10:00 a.m.
Classic cartoons accompanied by Ken Double on The Wonder Morton theatre organ. We will also host a kids’ costume parade before the screening begins. We encourage families to come dressed in their best Roaring ‘20s attire!

A Community Showcase at Balboa Theatre
Saturday, March 30 at 6:00 p.m.
Artists from local performing arts organizations will bring their talents to Balboa Theatre’s stage in the concluding event of our 100th Anniversary celebration. Performers from all over San Diego will be represented.
